Surprisingly unprofessional... An embarassment to The Guardian!

 

I stayed at the Prince De Gaulle a couple years ago, which is next door to Le Cinq.  While I haven't eaten at Le Cinq, I am surprised that a journalist would write a review in such an unprofessional manner with such profanity. 

Does it really affect me?  Does it really hurt my eyes?  Am I going to threaten to boycott reading The Guardian from now on?  NO.  But, congratulations to The Guardian, thanks to Jay Rayner's profound (and profane) review, their oblique editor for permitting the release of such a review, I will now hold The Guardian at a lower quality media source.  Somewhere between "respectable newspaper" and "fake news." 

I applaud Rayner for the article being well written and written with gusto and passion; but in the end it's just too vulgar for my tastes (pun intended). 

Congratulations Mister Rayner.  Enjoy those newly gotten fans who like your writing style!

Le Cinq, Paris: restaurant review from The Guardian by Jay Rayner - It was supposed to be a joyous trip to one of France's famous gastro palaces-what could possibly go wrong?

A few high lights to set the mood. " It is decorated in various shades of taupe, biscuit and fuck you. There's a little gilt here and there, to remind us that this is a room designed for people for whom guilt is unfamiliar. It shouts money much as footbal...

yet mildly hilarious(if you discount the amount of money spent) and revealing review . Looks like i won't be visiting this joint on my trip to Paris next month. I have enjoyed several three stars establishment there over the years , but never experienced ... 

The last time I visited Le Cing was over 15 years ago.

At the time we had the pleasure of of Eric Beaumard handling the wines in person. It was after he placed "1998 Vice-Champion of the world in the Best Sommelier in the World contest". The wines were mostly from Alsace as he knew we really came for the wine...

I read Jay\'s review every weekend. His reviews are always interesting but he is at his best when demolishing a place - this one was so good I had to read it aloud to Mrs E! Best E.

Last year me and my wife ate @ Le cinq. Food was great. Look forward to go back again someday Some shots of my dishes.... ...

Most people won't go & those that already do probably don't read the Guardian! Can only really go on whether you enjoyed it or not. On a similar note read a review of a restraunt near me & it likened the customer service to something out of Fawlty Towers ...

Agree it is a funny read but at the same time it is one man's view of one meal. I like the guy and enjoy his rants, but I bet I would have thoroughly enjoyed a meal there. Never had a bad dining experience at any 3* restaurant!
