I know that Bowmore and it is a great buy for that money. Better value than a Lagavulin Destillers Edition. I don't think it is the cask finishing. Peated whiskies receive also a finish in ex- bourbon casks, like unpeated ones.
This is not my favorite. Too peated (smoky) for me!

Don't go for the Macallan 18 Sherry Oak. Which used to be my favorite. But now it's gotten too expensive. Go for the riskier but still fun to drink bottles that are less expensive. The ones at the airport are all "easy to drink" and still very enjoyable.
