5960P vs 5140P
So I currently have a 5960p and is concidering trading it towards a 5140p. Main reasons being the smaller and slimmer 5140 makes it a better daily wearer but I also like the romantic part of wearing a perpetual calendar. Thoughts? Does everyone agree that the 5140p is upgrade?

I wouldn’t hesitate, especially as I like the micro rotor 240 caliber better than the central rotor one. And imo the 5140 fits your wrist better. But it’s very subjective of course. Best, Emmanuel

For me certainly not an upgrade but a sideways change. Both special in their own way but the 5960p 1st edition for me will always feel a special milestone for Patek and the companies history. M.
3940 5140 5960 for me.
But honestly they are all great. Just a matter of what you like.

.. I find the date ring to be disproportionately large.. and the fonts a mess eg the shrunken dates.. so I would stick to the 5960P
To me definitely an
upgrade to PC in P !👍 The only small issue is the compressed date numerals, which would not be a deal breaker for me. Best of luck with your decision!
The 5960 is a milestone reference for Patek, but my personal preference goes to the steel 1A, vs. 5140, it’s a modernized version of the 3940, so not as iconic.
But this is hobby based on emotions, so go for what makes you happy! As for the small date numerals, totally disregard it, since I remember when the 5140 was introduced, someone came up whit this observation and everyone just repeated the same thing, whil...
I like your point about how a given feature on a certain brand may be highlighted as being negative while at the same time lauding other brands’ models with same feature.
Although PP is one of those lauded brands that usually gets a pass😊. So, your advice about the 5140p, which is a lovely piece, is well taken.

I was just trying to highlight the heard mentality and opinion forming vs. individual thinking which is so infuriating (to me), this days…
Out of these two the 5140. I used to have a 5960G in my collection but realized I prefer a manual chrono over automatic so swapped it for a 5172. I also prefer to have 1 reference complication than several combined.
So manual chrono over auto Perpetual over annual Worldtimer over GMT And a combination of these “lesser” complications never trumps a watch with only a single “more advanced” complication.
I’d choose 5140.
It it an elegant look. I had a 5140 but moved it to get a 5327. Very happy going to perpetual calendar route.
Between the 5960p and 5140p, I would choose the
5960p. If you really want a perpetual calendar, there are better references.

Of these 2 I like 5960 better as it is more special and interesting IMHO.
As for 5140 - it has a benefit of smaller size that fits your wrist better.
I personally like both. If I would have to choose I would boil it down to what style of place in my collection is more with a gap:

I think 5960 is a better watch, but 5140 suits your wrist better. And you mentioned wearability / slimness a few times. However I feel you may like the 5140 to meet a price point. Instead, you may want another thin watch whose date function is easy to set...
IMHO, I don't see it as an upgrade but quite the contrary...
I have never really understood the boundary between "complications" and "grand complications" in Patek's catalogue, specially with Perpetual Calendars. Only explanation I can find is marketing and price positioning... To me, an Annual Calendar - Monocount...
