Chopard’s pre-Alpine Eagle tool watch - the LUC Sport 2000 🤺
Many a year ago I found myself in a situation where both Chopard’s were in the spa at the same time. That made me a bit trigger happy and I figured it was time for a new watch. The choice was between a Taiwan limited edition GS (forgot the name in the meantime), the Tudor North Flag and the Chopard LUC Sport 2000. Given the forum the final decision is not a surprise.
While the other two would have been accomplished watches I do not regret my choice in the least. Using it on leather straps instead of the original rubber it’s a watch that can be easily dressed up or down and it has the robustness necessary to deal with the challenges of daily life. The WR rating is 100m and you have a screw down crown for piece of mind.
Beating inside is the micro rotor in-house Cal4.96, the sports version of Chopard’s first LUC movement, with a tungsten rotor. It unfortunately doesn’t jack and the rotor is on the loud side but otherwise it’s a more special movement than what you usually get with sports watches.
The attention to detail is obvious dial side as well, with possibly one of the most elaborate dials fitted to a sports watch, hour markers of almost a GS quality and that charming LUC counterweight on the seconds hand.
Just like Minerva under Gnutti, Chopard did many things right back in the day but to build up a strong brand takes a very long time.
Any Chopard’s out this weekend?
