I think I get Alex's point...
Not so long ago, Cartier's entry level and most commonly seen Tanks, Ballon Blu, Pasha, Santos models etc all use basic ETA movements (correct me if I am wrong). Indeed the movements are nothing special. Perhaps that is why they are not good enough for Alex and may be that is why these watches do not have display case backs.
Fast forward to 2010, Cartier introduced their basic in-house 1904 MC movement family and started to put them into their newer entry level watches such as the Calibre de Cartier, Tank Angalise, Tank MC etc. Later introduced the 1847 MC movement and put into Cle De Cartier and Ronde Croiser de Cartier. Apart from the last watch, the rest of them all have display case backs to show off Cartier's entry level in house calibers. Finishing is not to Petak or Lange standard but then you are not paying Petek/ Lange price.
Of course, you also get Cartier's ultra high end Fine Watch Making Collection like many of you have mentioned here. They are just jaw-droppingly gorgeous!
Dare I say, I think Cartier watches are very bipolar. Either their entry level stuff or their fine watch making stuff. Just my 2 cents.
Like always, correct me if I am wrong, I am still learning and new to here.
