Finally, another "icon" added to the family.
After years of searching, found one in near mint condition with papers dated 2010.
The Santos Galbee XL is the ideal combination between the Caree and the modern Santos . The 32 mm width sits exactly in the center between Caree (29 mm) and modern santos (35 mm).
The bezel is a simple square like the Caree. Not like the "flowing" bezel with lip in the new Santos, which i feel too modern and too dressy.
The built quality of the case and bracelet is much better compared to Caree, almost on par with the new iteration .
The case still carry sharp, almost brutalist lines carried from The Caree, more masculine than the new one with prominent bevels and softer corners.
The caseback is curved , flush with the curved case, not like the protruding (bubble) in the Caree.
The caliber is cartier 031 which is essentially a reworked ETA 2892. Its easy to serviced, robust, and thin. Of course it doesn't have the bells and whistles of the inhouse movement in the new iteration, but i don't mind at all .
All in all, i am very excited with this NWA.
Now i have several "icon" watches from established brands in my humble collection : Rolex explorer, and Datejust, JLC reverso and memovox, Omega speedmaster and seamaster, IWC Pilot 3706 and Ingenieur, Cartier Tank Louis and Santos.
All are keepers. Very grateful and many thanks for you all in the forum.
