Wooden It Be Nice ...
Sep 21, 2019,13:00 PM
Today I'm at WaveCrest, the largest Woodie gathering in the United States (the world?) Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, California.
Set your surfboard down over there, put on your straw hat, grab a cold one, and come on a walk with me through the parking lot ...
Whatever style, brand, color, condition or powertrain, you can find it here.
Do you like them rough / Rat Rod style? Or pristine convertible?
Are you English? Do you like the Morris Minor Traveler woodie? There are 14 here today to choose from.
How about an early custom rod woodie?
Or an original 4x4 camping lodge transporter to take you to your mountain cabin?
Look here - and check out the wooden surfboards on this Blue Baby
Navy battleship grey is popular but I prefer the orange metallic (personally)
And/Or a big motor, and they all seem to fit comfortably under those high, long hoods
Oh yes, imagine the midnight nookie these roof rails have overlooked...
After the parking lots filled up the city blocked off a few streets for more safe woodie parking (and gawkers with cameras like me)
I think this is a Town & Country Sedan Woodie
This is a Ford, around 1960 or so
Another Chrysler sedan
Looked good on the paint chart but probably 1 or 2 shades TOO BRIGHT on the car
Ah, the Crosley Wagon Woodie, in original paint and condition
I believe this is a 1960 Edsel Bermuda. I've never seen one before (thank goodness)
Dodge Commercial Depot Wagon
Favorite motor was either "stock" or Chevy Small Block with chrome trimmings
"I don't need no stinking varnish on my woodie" or do I?
For the 4x4 lifted crowd, with tiki theme, flat paint, etc. we present the Ultimate SurfMobile
The other side
"Look mom, that Morris Woodie's got two steering wheels!"
(but only one set of pedals)
I hope you have enjoyed WaveCrest. The band was good but it's kind of hard to take "love songs" seriously when sung by 11-year olds... 😃
Cheers,
Cazalea
PS - not QUITE a woodie so they parked on the outer edge of the zone - nice tilt bed anyway
