As for the comparison of the 993 v. 964, and which to favor, I advise driving each first. The 993 is a HUGE leap forward performance-wise, especially the handling because of the multi link rear suspension. I’ll bet it will put a much bigger smile on your face through the corners.

Certainly appealing...
Not nearly as sweaty palmed in terms of driving experience as previous turbos but still incredibly fast. And very beautiful. The only thing I dislike is that without adjustments you cannot get the drivers seat far enough back for tall drivers.
I dream of the 911 964. A friend of mine who also collect watches ( only Rolex since 20 years ) has one turbo and one cabriolet among many others Porsche. [nt]
One of these I’ll definitely buy a 911 964. One of the most beautiful car ever produced.
Great car but AFAIK
It requires proper driving skills otherwise oversteering can surprise the pilot.

993 Carrera S is the one. N/A, wide body but 2WD.

964 Is ravishing but 993 is stunning allure. If I may suggest 993 Carrera 2S over Turbo.. simple kind smart character inside voluptuous body. 993 Turbo is perfect nonetheless.

More than a 1,000,000 (yep, a million) 911s have now been produced. It's not a rare car anymore. The youngest 993 is now 20 years old and the 964 25 years. The reason 964s are light-weight is the quantity of fibre-glass used to repair their rotting bodies...

The 911 is indeed far from a rare car, but that doesn't take away the fact it is a car with a great driving-feel to it. I remember the first time i drove my friend's 3.0 from 1981 (must have been in 2005) i really didn't like it at all. As he left the car...
You are of course absolutely right. That's why I started with a Volvo P 1800. Which, in superb shape, is lower in price than the 911 and much more affordable to maintain. BUT...
I am not in hurry, and I don't want to go for a 911 just to say that I finally got it. I don't want the dream become a nightmare. Thanks for your great input! Best, Nicolas
Go for it, but ....
... To keep costs 'low' buy a normal 3.6 non turbo Carrera 2 or 4 manual. If you buy a 993 you will offcourse have a more modern car that will probably give you a slightly more useable vehicle. Bim

I wasn't introduced to the 964 until much later...
I was first introduced to the 993 by my grade school teacher. She gifted me a Porsche 911 brochure (993) which quickly became one of my treasured possessions. So my exposure to the 964 was much later. But I like them all!
