Sustainability ?
Never heard of that .. at least, humanity has never heard of that.
Why produce ("average")cars with 200 to 500 hp ?
Why produce ("subsidized") electric cars with 700 hp .... and probably 1500 to 2000 hp in the near future.
People WILL use that power (and even more in electric cars because it's so easy) and waste precious energy.
There is off course a future for electric vehicle ... but i think the 'approach' to that is COMPLETELY wrong right now.
The big brands are just waiting and observing .... playing at the legal accounting limits .. producing a few try-out electric cars and some seriously bad hybrid cars like the Panamera Turbo Hybrid whatever .... here in Belgium now suddenly subsidizing of those vehicles becomes a difficult issue 
.... most people (clients etc) i know their Panamera consumes 12 to 15 l/100 km instead of the 'promised' 1,5 or 2,5 or whatever l/100km.
Electric cars ???
Yes, if they are REALLY good for the planet.

For everyday use, I’m sure there’s no issue with a Tesla if you live in a big city (so many Tesla cabs here in Geneva). I’m much more worried about a long trip ( 700km) with such a car.

Those acceleration figures are not the whole truth
The standard Tesla will keep that acceleration up to 120 km/h and after that slow down immensly. This Tesla Roadster will also slow down beyond 160 km per hour or will not have the same elasticity of the Chiron on the top end, from let us say 200 km per h...
After 4 years of driving one on a daily basis I can assure you that it out drives ICE cars comfort/speed wise (normal use).
