Trying too hard.

For a start it’s not clear if this is an homage to a distinctive design or an attempt to use the 2000GT as the basis for a new car design.

If you assume the former then some designers will try too hard to take a classic and reinvent it so it’s “their own”. If you took this reinterpretation and removed all the extraneous folderol’s what would it look like?

Can you see the original proportions and signature design features or has it just become bland - could have come from anywhere intended for any manufacturer?

In this instance I would be inclined to ask the designer to go back to first principals. Cartoonists have an uncanny ability to highlight the really original and distinctive features of a person. Great designers can reduce car design the same way.

BMW is the Hofmeister kink, Porsche the roof and window line of a 911, Land Rover the flat top fenders/wings. To modernize these designs you don’t need to do much, and that shows the skill of the designer in advancing the design with restraint. It’s one line that defines the identity of the car.

What would the equivalent look like for the 2000GT? Front fascia? Fender/Wing line? Rear side window curve? What’s the minimum you can do to recognize the design but also make it feel 21st century?

What a challenge!

GM, you are not alone in your love for Japanese cars. If i call the fair lady Datsun 240Z, than i guess you will melt too. Now i have a some pictures of special cars. I will dive in my album and post it here under. ...

that is one swanky hakosuka

IMHO 240z is probably the 2nd most beautiful japanese after 2000GT

2000 GT is timeless.

The concept is interesting. It’s as if the classic were bred with a Viper..?

LOL, Rabid!

Doesn’t match the original

The front feels generic Dodge and the rear looks like something Aston Martin rejected. The side vents are vanilla, and pushing the wheels out beyond the wings/fenders just seems to be be trying too hard.

Trying too hard.
