Cpt you are ritgh, you can ride out the storm, but sometimes the storm is a long time.

With the restauration you are rigth, if you do it with professionals, you know the result. But sometimes the result at the end of restauration is far from the price what people like to pay for a car. One example, the 190 SL. If you do it rigth, and this is very complicated bodywork, you need the correct carburettors from SOLEX especially for this car with a small differenc to nearly the same SOLEX from other cars, if you find some the are more expensive than gold ones. You need the rigth leather not what we see here in Spain, some leather, all the other small parts, and than you stop at 140.000,- . The market dont pay this for this cars because a lot of this overrestored 190SL in the market. If you like to hold the car for years ist different.

The market also has changed, now the original good cars with patina more searched. For this cars it is easier to find a buyer. In the moment, a good friend of mine had to sell a great part of his collection for healthy problems, waiting for a very dangerous operation and the chance to survive is 50%. So he cannot let his wife with all this 20 cars allone, it is also a great work with maintance.

We talking from original cars with really lo kms, first paint, etc. the best what you can buy. Jaguar E-Type like new 15oookm, MB Pagode 280SL 34oookm, MB W111 280SE3,5 Cabriolet, 930 five speed cabriolet black/black, 928 GTS red with 40000km, and so on. All european cars, not USA reimported, this is only trash.

So he start to sell, because he dont knows his future, but it is not easy and he is in Germany and knows a lot of people from collectors world. He can sell bad, no problem! So one thing is the price in a nice Oldtimer Magazin, the other thing is a buyer with cash. They all dreaming from prices, but for me the price is what a buyer put on the table in front of me. No chichi-chacha - CASH.

So it is not always that the people need money, but you never know what happens in the future. Another problem the last years are speculators for Draghis 0% and now they go out of the market. They are idiots from banks and they has no idea from cars, but the pushed prices to a bubble. Now the market needs a correctur.

I hope you agree a little bit wink)

Best Walter

An old love: Fiat Dino.

 By: amanico : May 20th, 2018-17:15
Coupé or Spider, I always loved this car. I thought many times about getting one, sadly the train has gone, now... The main issue? Reliability. Credit picture: Classic Driver. That car has all: Sensuality, charm, beauty. Ok, it looks a bit like a big Ferr...

Wow, what a beautiful car and picture!

Despite owning Fiats and Alfas when I was young, I'm not especially familiar with the Dino Nicolas. Thanks for posting a great picture of this beauty. My first car was a 1973 Fiat 124 Coupe (red), next came a 1975 Fiat Spyder (orange), and then an Alfa Sp...

My mother owned a 850 Coupé, and a 124 Coupé, too. 2 cars from my childhood which I loved a lot! Without many problems, I must say. But the Dino is in another league, in terms of Beauty and...

Lack of reliability. Unless you know a very good specialist who is able to solve all the problems you will have to face...

And let’s not forget the price of parts

 By: cazalea : May 21st, 2018-07:04
As I learned with M-B, parts for an old $10,000 model cost the same as parts for a new $100,000 one. Mike

Gorgeous choice Nico [nt]

The spider was sexier - more of a mini-Ferrari. But I've always loved the more reserved GT character of the coupe

It's good to have choices; both make the same fine sounds. This one may be an awful color for an Italian car, but it's my favorite color, regardless! Image credit to Nicole Wakelin of Best, Tim ...

That's a beauty too Tim. Take that one with three or more and reserve the Dino for solo or due!

Poor man's versions of these are the 124 Sport Coupe and Spyder Veloce -- loved them both.

I also prefer the Coupe, Tim

I dunno bout it's reliability, but it is drop dead gorgeous

Not sure about reliability...

 By: KMII : May 20th, 2018-22:14
But they are truly gorgeous. Have a slight preference for the Coupe but would take any, really. As for reliability, like with most vintage cars it has been improving with time

Same here! [nt]

Wonderfull car!

My favorit is the last great FIAT produced, the 130 COUPE. Last chance to buy this luxery and rare car. Only 4500 Coupes in six years. Totaly underrated ! I love the clear design of this PININFARINA, which looks a little bit like the ROLLS ROYCE CAMARGUE ...

Fabulous car that is increasingly appreciated by collectors …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : May 21st, 2018-02:36
They all need careful consideration before buying as corrosion, electrics, and smoking engines are regular features. Still a wonderful design if you can afford the restoration costs !

At the moment the prices fall for all vintage cars and there is no end in sigth!

 By: Walter2 : May 21st, 2018-03:14
There are too many auctions, more than 50% go back. The 0% politics of Draghi ends. So the money goes to other places. There are many cars and the prices still high, but nobody buys. The Ferrari market ist dead since five years. The good cars too expensiv...

If there are enough cars and activ clubs, they start production of important parts. Also for Volvo PV models you can find parts.

 By: Walter2 : May 21st, 2018-05:21
For a FIAT 500 it is also easy because there are so many cars en Europe. For SEAT 600, our spanish icon, it is not so easy. But also Porsche parts very hard to find, like the cylinder head of the 944 S2 with four valves, whitch is the same like the left s...

Watches from some brands need more and expensiv service. Thats true, but it is nothing compared with old cars.

 By: Walter2 : May 23rd, 2018-05:34
A car must allways be moved, otherwise it will break. Correct is, one time a month 100km. If you leave a car for five years, it has to be restored. If you leave a Rolex five years in the safe, you take it out, you set the time and go for dinner.

That's true. [nt]
