Car dealers

Sep 23, 2020,16:23 PM

I recently bought a Tesla. The show room is in a shopping mall, across from the Apple store. Two cars in the showroom, half a dozen parked out back for a test drive. The price is the price, no negotiating. They sent me an a email telling me the car was being built and I could pick it up in two days at 2:00 pm either at the Tesla factory in Fremont California or at a pick up station in Burlingame California. It is a new world!

If you seen pictures of floods in the south of France, it is not strange that new gasoline cars are forbidden after 2035. I know the south of France, and it was always a stable climate. Ok, heavy rains almost kill me. Thanks to my guardian angel i survive...

Vowing is not the same as making it happen; we shall see

He ordered the regulators to come up with a legal way to make it happen; if they knew how to do it legally it would already be on its way, but they don't. Yet. Alas, another good reason to leave this place. Cazalea

I posed this question at the LA "Mobility Show" to autonomous driving programmers: How do I ask my car to cruise where cute women hang out?

 By: cazalea : September 23rd, 2020-15:11
They had no idea, and no answer. They couldn't conceive of anyone who wants to go "nowhere, just cruise around" -- in fact they thought it should be banned as wasteful. Since the future of the human race depends on a man finding a woman, men driving a car...

Typical computer science guys. Cute women are too far off their radar :)

No offense to our resident computer science guys... It's a beautiful day for a drive, especially in a convertible. Warm but not hot.

You're more right than you know...

Prostitution wasn't a problem in Silicon Valley until only the past ten years!

I don't really know from first hand experience...

 By: patrick_y : September 23rd, 2020-16:19
But I read Sand Hill Road is an epicenter of it unfortunately. I don't know how big of a problem it is, as the articles I've read didn't give comparative police statistics.

What a cute car... [nt]

Not wrong

It is not bad you cruise just for fun. Funny that the driving programmers do not understand why you can drive just for fun and facing adventure. They are spending to much time in an office building, and forget to live. Calculating all till every spontaneo...

The way it wil be introduced is a question. When new gasoline cars are forbidden after 2035, may the gasoline cars which are older stay on the road? In my country very old gasoline cars can not go into cities where they are not allowed. Only oldtimers wit...

Laws in my country

 By: Weems@8 : September 23rd, 2020-16:45
Diesel equipped cars before 1992 are not welcome in some cities. Villages are no problem. Petrol equipped cars, i do not know. Trucks i do not know. They want a ban for new gasoline cars in 2030. They change it i think, other government. Public protest, c...

Yes

So, what they say the ones that makes the laws, you can walk if you can not buy an electric car. They have no clue, that not everybody can by a brand new Tesla. They life in another reality. So, only when it is possible for everybody. There are so much ot...

Hmmm?

If Newsom is smart he bought some Tesla stock just before signing the order??๐Ÿ˜

Along these lines...

 By: mdg : September 23rd, 2020-14:56
...I have always thought that if autonomous driving ever becomes a reality, car enthusiasts will no longer be able to have any fun doing 'real' driving. How about this idea? A bunch of rich guys get together and buy 10 or 50 or whatever square miles of la...

I agree... But what about this...

 By: patrick_y : September 23rd, 2020-15:33
Electric cars will soon be worthy of being race cars! So maybe I'll drive in my electric car to a racetrack, do my few dozen laps, and after I erode most of my tires and brakes I'll drive home!

Electric will be everywhere...

 By: mdg : September 23rd, 2020-15:57
..but I was thinking more along the lines of ICE cars being driven 'in the wild.'

The future will likely ban all non self driving cars...

 By: patrick_y : September 23rd, 2020-16:21
So the pleasure of "driving" an ICE car will truly be limited to private property. The future will even ban electric cars that cannot perform self driving.

This is more my concern than electric cars

 By: Tim_M : September 25th, 2020-11:18
Electric and hybrid cars are still a good deal of fun to drive. With so many gas-powered cars already laden with all-wheel drive, torque vectoring, stability control, and automatic transmissions, "gas-powered" no longer means "involving" or "emotional" th...

Agreed! Even the Porsche 911 is boring these days...

 By: patrick_y : September 25th, 2020-11:59
I still remember the "996" and "997" generations were scary cars, one wrong move in the steering wheel) while braking (braking puts all the weight on the front of the car and leaves the rear a little light) and the car can go into a spin. With the 991 ser...

Already done? Monticello, AMP, private tracks like golf country clubs. $$$

But, if we haven't done that with firearms yet I'm not convinced that will happen to cars in our lifetime....

Dealership business model is going to have to change rapidly...

 By: patrick_y : September 23rd, 2020-15:29
New Car Dealerships in California operate in a competitive environment where the price of the car is often subject to negotiation since there are multiple dealers within the state. Thus, in California, many mass market dealers don't make very much money o...

I meant typical car dealers that are still under the franchise models will have to reevaluate their business practices. Tesla is not a typical car dealership since all their stores are corporate owned. All their service centers are corporate owned. Tesla ...

Autonomy is the real concern, not motive power.

 By: Tim_M : September 23rd, 2020-17:41
Autonomy, not electric drive, is the enemy of the driving enthusiast. Many performance cars today already have all-wheel drive, torque-vectoring differentials, automatic transmissions, and computer-based stability control; the driver is half a passenger a...

The promise of autonomous driving and risk reduction dissolves if one drunk driver or tired driver careens across the highway of cars on automated courses. I can envision an era quite easily in which all cars on highways and turnpikes are required to be a...
