For lack of better characterization, I regard Lange as a brand for those “in the know,” compared to Rolex or PP (which some may also debate), for example. And I agree that they were indeed “lost” at SC&L, whom certainly didn’t do a great job at selling me on it, which was fine because I already had a researched appreciation of select Lange pieces. But I also knew enough to appreciate there was a lot more to the Lange story and history that would have impressed me to learn about from the vendor, but it didn’t happen for whatever reason. As such, if planned and prepared for correctly, I’d bet (and hope) the specialized boutique to do a better job at this. We all here appreciate Lange and the beauty of design and engineering for their various models, whether they be a simple time/date piece or more complicated. So I do wish their strategy well and will watch with interest how the Boston play works.
Note: I am still curious about brands’ decisions (eg AP, RM, and ALS) to open up dedicated boutiques in Boston when it is geographically so close to the epicenter that is NYC. I know RM and AP are joint ventures, but still curious why Boston…ESPECIALLY when none of these boutiques got any pieces that people want to buy on hand. It’s all very interesting to me from a business strategy perspective, but I think that’s a topic for another time.
