It’s funny that JML has chosen “forgotten watches “ for this week’s theme as...

...recently, whilst having a bit of a clear out, I unearthed a watch that I had completely forgotten about. I found it in an old jewellery box that had survived three house moves unopened. It is an English made Smith’s Imperial dating from the late 1950s and was given to me by my wife’s grandfather sometime in the mid 1970s. I recall wearing it for a while then discarding it for something more modern, probably something like a Pulsar LED, which was fashionable then.
So, this watch has rested forgotten for about 45 years but the most surprising thing is that on finding it, I wound it (surprisingly smoothly), set it to the correct time and was delighted to find 24 hours later that it was running sweetly and keeping good time. I’ve given it a quick rub with a polishing cloth and a new strap and it’s now kept amongst my other vintage watches and I’ll wear it from time to time. Regards Kev.
