Anthony, have I been proven wrong?

Jan 21, 2008,06:09 AM

This is one instance I hope I am and happy to be proven wrong.

I am glad that eventually there are responses to the thread (I certainly hope its not just because I decided to raise the issue but because people had in fact a genuine interest to discuss about MB). In any case, I thought best that I replied to your point about being offended by my remark.

While I realised that my statement - "Unfortunate that it seems like forummers are more interested in showing off what they are wearing on their wrist this weekend"  could have been interpreted to be offensive, I would like to state that it is an observation based on fact . There had been a extremely long thread on "What's on your Wrist" but not one single response on SJX's thread. Its a statement that an objective man would have made looking at both threads - next to each other - at the moment in time when I posted in the thread.

BTW - coincidentally, I too shook my head in disbelief and honestly felt sorry for SJX having put in so much effort to pubicise and invite purists to the MB launch. I felt it was important to voice out the strange unfamiliar unfriendliness that hung on the thread. Your reference to AndrewH's report and lack of interest underlines my concern of growing indifference rather than explains the lack interest in the brand. I too have observed some interesting threads that died from inattention. I may be waxing lyrical but just a couple of years ago, in my recollection, threads never die from inattention.

I sincerely hope for the sake of Purists.com that you are wrong - that the reason why there aren't many replies to the thread because there are so few who own MB watches .

The point about Purist, Watchrap in its early days and HoMe today - is that we are given an opportunity to discuss watches regardless of whether we own them or not. I would suspect a majority of the threads in the years past are made by those who do not own any watch of the brand in the thread even. I would go as far as to EXPECT that forummers give their opinion regardless of whether they own the watch or not. Otherwise, how then can the opinion be viewed as objective? I hope that this forum do not just end up being a place to discuss about one own's watches only - like many other forums we all know of.

I would like to challenge both you and the moderators to consider start a thread or even a poll to examine ourselves what makes the Purists great and special compared to the other forums. For me, I can personally say in the beginning when I started in the community, it was the fierce determination to hold on to the purists credo and to actually make an effort to share within the community accurate information as well as well argued opinions - regardless of whether we own the brand's watch.

Honestly as you are familiar  - what is on your wrist on Friday - was not part of the culture of the earlier days of Purists. Has the forum evolved? Maybe, probably. Is it fun to do it? Of course it is! Should we continue - Certainly! But is this what makes it great? Lets find out what the forummers think.

Harry

Not sure that Forummers are busy to show off their Wrist Shots. Rather think that some of us ( I belong to those ) are quite sceptic regarding MontBlanc as a Watch Brand. OK, they bought Minerva, a nice , very nice movment maker, but is it enought to get ...

Does the brand matter?

 By: SJX : January 20th, 2008-07:03
Hi Nicolas, I understand the points you make, but then does brand matter? The Montblanc Minerva watches are evidently of high quality, I have yet to hear anyone say they are badly or insufficiently finished. Therefore the tangible aspects of the watch are...

Mont Blanc has A LOT of work to do IMO

Mont Blanc cannot expect to gain recognition right away in the already so crowded high priced watch category. The only way for Mont Blanc to garner more interest from the PuristS community or any other watch community out there is to get their watches on ...

Dear SJX, I would like to comment on a couple of sentences in your excellent review. True, the watches are very beautiful, but suffer from conceptional peculiarities Mycroft so aptly described. 1. The transition of Minerva: You wrote: Minerva's transforma...

I agree I should have mentioned Mr Menaldo, that omission is my mistake. As for the second point, I should have been more clear in my post. I did not mean that Montblanc created the line, rather that a lot of effort is obvious in the watch itself, meaning...
