And to kick proceedings off…

Here some of mine:
Starting with the most recent. Years ago I found news of this appearing and it definitely looked like something I would enjoy. A fellow forum member, also interested tried to help out but at that point this was a JDM effort only and not we’ll set up for international customers. Times have clearly changed in the meantime. While I continued to like the rare shots of this particular model, I kind of filed it under the ‘the one that got away’ category until I found - very unexpectedly - for sale recently. And within minutes the deal was sealed 😊 So all in all a gestation period of ca. 4 years, even if most were spent in wait, rather than actively stalking the prey 😉
The VC 1972 was another topic. Here it was not hard to convince me that I wanted one, nor that difficult to find one. It was more a matter of a patient wait until the stars aligned and I was able to put it all together. Took around 5 years but fortunately I bagged it just in time, before availability became difficult.
Habring as a brand was also a matter of a long hunt. I have decided early on that a watch from every country we used to live in was a worthwhile goal, so a Habring was set. Only somehow the timing was never completely right and I always wanted to do it direct, rather than go through a dealer - given that it was a good two hour drive away from where we lived. Finally we had to move almost 2000 km away before that trip happened, and the first Habring joined our watch box 😊 It has been joined by three more in the meantime 😂
One of them the Endurance - well named for the theme this week 😉
Then come the JDM models (or almost) from Seiko. Unfortunately I had the curse of the late birth, so all of these were well and truly in stable homes by the time I started out 🤷🏻♂️ The SUS is a watch with quite some role in the revitalization of mechanical watch interest in Japan and I loved the story (even if less the date window, but in its defence, it debuted before the ubiquity of mobile phones). Took me over six years to finally find one and then a long, over one year Covid induced break before I could collect it.
The MCM emerged early one as the front runner for my first JLC. And about 5 years later it actually became that. There was no objective reason why it took that long - availability was there - but finally the story had a happy ending. Nothing alarming about this long hunt 😉
Then my grail Seiko, the Izul. In its most bonkers, rotatable case, 51mm iteration. This also took 6 years of searching and a certainty, that it was beyond mere mortals to be found set in by then. Suddenly someone contacted me about one and another WOS member supported here and assured me that all was well. So six years of searching, six months of organizing a transfer (via Norway - so for a EU bought watch I still had to pay Norwegian VAT 🤦🏻♂️) it was finally with me 🦾
Finally, another JDM-ish piece, the Discus Burger. Not hard to find in its heyday but by the time I started searching all were long gone. Finally bothered an owner for long enough that they decided it was easier to sell it to me 😂
Looking forward to your stories and pictures!
