Thanks a lot dear Captain for your kind comments. Glad you like these shots and watches. Regret to say that the XK120 is not mine but a car in a Classic Cars events held...

... a few years ago here in my Country. This event was not held in the last two years due to the Pandemic but I hope this year it will be organized again. I was wearing my 6239 Daytona that day and I thought that this beautiful XK 120 would be a nice background for a wrist shot.
Regarding my God Sub "Royal Purple": This watch I own since many years and was found in a practically unworn condition. It is something easy to understand as this is a very conspicuos watch to be used in the open in my Country. So more often these kind of big gold watches (and specially if Rolex) are found with little or no use at all.
By observing in internet other Submariners watches of the same period than mine (I can´t remember the exact year right now, but tonight I will check my records and will tell you) having the deep cobalt blue dial it can be seen that the original beautiful color has generaly changed to a purple hue which is much evident when observed under sunlight. Really mesmerizing as you well describe.
As it happened in older watches with black dials which change to a pleasing brown (tropical we call it) the blue changes to an awesome purple most probably due to a decay in the varnish or lacquer employed by Rolex´s dial maker in those days.
When observed in artificial light or indoors it is not so evident but in the open the change is really awesome and not easy to capture in a picture due to the reflex of the saphire glass.
Though not the best choice for a tool watch a gold Submariner (as well as a gold GMT) is a real beauty I feel.
Glad you liked my dear friend! Cheers! Abel
