Difficult theme for me

I have to admit that in general I don’t like Rolex watches. Don’t get me wrong, they are fine watches and someone has to admire the brand for its truly rich history and unique approach they take in the industry. On the other hand, a Rolex is just too popular and common. I think 95% of Rolex owners only have a Rolex as a statement “hey look, I can afford an expensive watch”.

My history and Rolex? Well, when I was very young, a (former) friend talked me into buying a “Romex” at a market in Korea. My sinful youth…

More recently, I had an Air King Super Precision with me. It came to me as a trade-in. It was in fact a nice vintage watch, but I could not relate the price tag with the watch.

So I quickly traded it again for a GP, the Chronograph 2499.

Do I desire to own a Rolex? Some of the early Submariners or GMTs I admit are very nice, especially with the right patina. But when I then look at the price tag, I would not fork out the cash, there are too many other options I would give preference instead.

HAGWE,
