Worst offenses when your watches were serviced?

May 25, 2018,03:01 AM

I  had a few of those during the past few years.

These happened with different watches at authorized dealers in Zurich or at the respective service centers of the watch manufacturers in Switzerland.

- Bezel scratched while performing routine water resistance and timekeeping tests
- Movement stopped working a few days after receiving my watch after a complete service
- Movement scratched when performing routine work
- Lug scratched/knocked while changing a strap and then I was told by the boutique manager that the watch was old and that I was in fact not telling the truth (the watch had more than a full year of warranty, by the way!)
- I asked that my watch should not be polished during servicing - but guess what, they almost started polishing it at the service center, but luckily the boutique manager contacted the service center and told them not to
- etc.

The brands involved include the "holy trinity" as well as brands at or around the level of Rolex, but NOT Rolex.

How can these people claim they work in the luxury industry and deliver such poor services?

I have watches that came back with scratches at the sides - which I think is caused clamps - because they are symmetrical. Also had watches that stopped after a few days. Got to bring them back to check again. Then there is a time when the AR coating unde...

Oh this is very recently. From our Rule breakers who first mastered them.

...certifications etc etc. meaning qualified for certain complications. But if a 100k Schumi goes to the same guy with 20k APROO - same complication - wud the Schumi owner get nervous??

At the end of the day everyone ends up at Rolex, but we need all the time to understand that!

Another point are the prices, only Rolex has a perfect price-performance ratio. Best Walter

I believe they still offer that service....

If you need an other adress from a Rolex watchmaker working in a Rolex dealer for 25 years, where I send my watches too, i can give you the address by PM. He also do what you want, but no compromises in quality, no quick repair, only full movement service...

Hi Cpt. you have to change the SC. Send the watch to RS Madrid and talk with the people what you want, and what you not want.

You like that the dont change hands and dial, because you like to conserve the tritium hands, they dont change it. You dont want to polish, no problem. They know why we dont want to change, and why we dont want polish, etc. With the movement they make no ...

Timing off

 By: rnaden : May 25th, 2018-04:25
The worst I’ve ever had was when I sent a watch in to fix a timing rate that was running 2 mins per week too fast and it came back running approximately 5x that and a bent pin buckle added into the fray. That brand no longer exists in my collection becaus...

Some people advocate that watches should never be sent to service unless there’s really a need for repair.

Each time a watch gets opened, there is a chance of things going wrong.

It’s not always bad I had sent my Blancpain for service and 16 weeks later got it back in perfect condition even including new strap My AD was great in managing the service

To have the watch taken away from me for 11 months, returned to me with no work done.

Not because my vintage sporty steel watch didn't require work, but it already took 6 months for the local boutique staff to get some answers from the workshop in Switzerland. Then no one at the boutique followed up on my case when my initial contact point...

I follow the 'teaching' of the late Claude-Daniel Proellochs, the ceo of Vacheron Constantin: 'Have a watch serviced when it stops keeping time.'

My favourite watch servicing incident was when Richemont sent me a bill for work on an IWC that wasn't mine. I explained this to them. Their reply was that I was wrong.
