The connection with AP runs deep
The genesis of this movement goes back to Audemars Piguet's beautiful but delicate calibre 9ML, with a thickness of....you guessed it...1.64 mm! In a move to modernize the keyless works and produce a sturdier design for the future, AP collaborated with V&C to commission a redesign of the 9ML from JLC; the result being the prototype calibre 803 in 1953. As agreed, AP retained exclusive use of the new calibre, designed cal. 2003, for two years. V&C didn't mind waiting as they had grand plans to launch their version, cal. 1003, in 1955 to coincide with the Manufacture's 200th anniversary.

Slim race

Well, these guys were making these starting from 1955 ! But I am also a big admirer of Piage because while their 9P movement was not as spectacular as this one, their 12P with microrotor was and they made some nice watches and kept their line until now.
