At 40mm with lumed hands and indices plus on a calfskin strap is this really a dress watch?
Why does a 40mm gold Rolex Day-Date have a screwdown crown...is it a dress watch? a sports watch? something in-between?
Of course In truth, 30m is plenty fine for this particular gold model of the FiftySix (which loves marvelous), but what about the steel versions of the FiftySix on bracelet? Is a screw-down crown really that inconvenient? I've never understood the aversion the watch industry has with screw-down crowns when that same aversion doesn't extend to Rolex... it just seems so logical unless I'm missing something.

I might be wrong but I thought that a screw-down crown only makes sense with a water resistance of at least 100m.
Most Rolexes, even if made of a precious metal, have an oyster case which ensures such a 100m or more water resistance (and a metal or an oyster flex bracelet): thus the screw-down crown.
I agree with you that this is a very good looking watch and color combination. But I find the claim "manufacture caliber" to be dubious...
This model of Vacheron Constantin drags down the brand. As this is one of the few men's models that are not using a Geneva-Sealed Vacheron Constantin movement. That being said, it is a good looking watch, no doubt!
I agree too, but still find this version attractive.
Caliber 1326 is based on the Cartier 1904 architecture. It's produced by ValFleurier (owned by Richemont) and finished, assembled, and regulated by VC. Not Geneva Seal, but not that bad looking, imo. ...
In the movement photo you posted I find the circular cutout on the plate just above the balance wheel to be unattractive.

This line never lived up to expectations for me.
The various movements are not equally well finished. The date is an afterthought. 40mm is too big for a classic, retro-inspired dress watch.
I share many of your criticisms, but I still find this model
better looking than the previous ones.
