I have slightly wider feet, and once, bought a Garziano and Girling pair which is gorgeous, but caused me painful bunionettes flares. I should have checked the fit before buying it. I don't wear it anymore. But it is still gorgeous to look at sitting in my wardrobe. I like Church's as well, but find their leather grades are too hard, and tend to crack. I like Pierre Corthay too, but they are too expensive and the patina is hard to maintain, and 1 pair is my first and last.
My goldilocks range is USD$600-1300 for a good quality pair. I never buy shoes with Blake stitching anymore, because they cannot be resoled, although they look sleek and nice. I avoid shoes with glued on soles (those are too transient) too.
Nowadays, I wear Crockett and Jones (I would visit the store in Sydney to try them on) and also RM Williams (an Aussie brand bought over by LVMH) which make the most comfortable chukka boots. I might try Edward Green for my next pair - I saw very beautiful designs and their quality and design outclasses Crockett and Jones (but then again, quality and design are often a function of cost. They cost approximately 50% more for similar bench models - well worth it)
