The rain doesn’t matter so much as steamed up windows in the cars. We would have to run the engine periodically to warm up ourselves and defrost the windscreen.
Some deluxe slots in our drive-in had little electric heaters on the speakers you put in your window.
A couple pals and I went to an all night spaghetti Western Drive-in event — A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good the Bad the Ugly, and Every Which Way But Loose (I thought we also saw My Name is Nobody but that came out later).
One of the worst nights of my life — long, cold, miserable!
When I moved back to San Diego I was 18 and had a car. The climate was generally warm and we had at least 6-7 drive-in theatres. I went occasionally, but nothing sticks in my mind.

The closest to my house was the campus drive-in. The sign was saved and towers over a mall now just a few hundred yards (meters) from the house where I grew up.
