we bought some new stainless steel kitchen knives last year when we had the kitched done and i didnt give her a coin 
i did give her a credit and debit card on the joint accounts and equal access to my income. is that the same ??

For conveniece
You would give the knife and the coin. The giftee would upon receipt give you the coin as payment for the knife. There is supposedly something about giftee purchasing the knife that removes the risk of a severing a relation. Bill
