Ed, I chose this "ladder" pattern.
The maker and I discussed basic parameters for the knife -- it's size and shape, the pattern for the blade, and materials for the scales, liners and bolsters. I did not know what the patter would be on the bolsters, only that he would use a mosaic.

For conveniece
You would give the knife and the coin. The giftee would upon receipt give you the coin as payment for the knife. There is supposedly something about giftee purchasing the knife that removes the risk of a severing a relation. Bill
