Sad news
The Animals is so good music, i play it often.
At school the Animals was always in music lessons.
When i heard Santa Esmeralda, i like be miss understood not knowing it was an original Animals song.
When i heard the original i can’t get enough of the song.
The Santa Esmeralda version is great too.
We can not get out of this place, the classic war song.
Eric Burdon is an icon, and sometimes i think he is the best British vocalist ever.
Let’s remember Hilton forever. RIP.

I would place Burdon just behind Paul Rodgers . . .
. . . in the rock vocalist category. Which differs, in my humble opinion, from rock singer (Bowie and Stewart) or front man (MJ in a category all by himself). Burdon's voice was unmistakable. Hilton's Sky Pilot to Heaven Art

Many thanks for bringing back such great memories.. I was 14 at the start of the 60's so l lived on Animals, Stones, Beatles, Moodys etc.
Seen the Moody Blues twice, the Animals once, the Stones forty times . . .
. . . and Ringo Starr on one occasion, taking over the drum kit for Nils Lofgren's drummer to close out a set at The Roxy. ;-)
Can you imagine any group today creating a video . . .

I'm a huge Animals fan.
But curiously didn't "sign on" to the band until the last five years or so. Now, I just adore their music. RIP, Mr Valentine. M4
Most younger folks here have no inkling about them; they're aware of the 'top tier' British '60s bands . . .
. . . like the Beatles, Stones, Zep, Floyd, Kinks, et al., but Gerry and the Pacemakers? The Hollies? Peter and Gordon? Dave Clark Five? Not a clue . . .

UGH! Another sad mortality reminder. I remember many of those less famous English bands. In '65 I was 12 and learning to play guitar. One of my favorite songs was Apache by the Shadows.
It still holds up well... as do many early hits by the Animals. First song I learned to play in a "band" was House of the Rising Sun (hey, we actually did play one legit gig!) without vocals. I guess we thought we were the teeny-weeny Ventures!
The Shadows not only were a great band, they . . .
. . . still are. Hank Marvin is still around, and they perform occasionally. Our previous Omega moderator, Nilo, had Peace Pipe . . . . . . set as his ring tone. I play it on the jukebox at our pool tournaments in his honor. Art
