No rally, but the mass exodus of a people imprisoned in their state ...

 

... for forty years. It happened in November 1989, when the Berlin wall came down, the government of the communist Eastern Germany folded, and the GDR citizens were free to see their neighbors in West Germany.

A few very good freinds of mine were among them - I remember receiving their first phone call from "the West", we all wept from joy ...
