Last time I stayed at...
this hotel called Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel... pretty good and in a really convenient location. Not sure if it's luxurious enough... perhaps you could check it out. The concierge service is unbelievable - they could help with anything you want to ask them about Tokyo, and beyond (eg day trips elsewhere).

Well I suppose I do tend to lean towards more modern, chic, fashionable sort of places, but still want somewhere quite luxurious and in an area that is generally convenient for the first time tourist I guess? That would involve being near interesting site...

At least during your stay try @ The Peninsula Tokyo, Ginza Area. I could say the service is top notch,room is huge especially if you re traveling with your spouse, , and opt for the imperial palace view, you wouldn't get disappointed. Rgds
