in no small part because 418 City of Edmonton Squadron flew them. Formed in 1941, they had the job of intercepting B1 buzz bombs heading for London and became quite good at it, sometimes by tipping them off course with their own wings! They went on to day and night ranger missions where they had free reign to roam over Europe attacking targets of opportunity; generally other aircraft, trains, and supply depots. "Hairless Joe" was the Squadron Commander's ship and 418 became the highest scoring RCAF Sqn of the war. I had the honour of serving with them years later as a reservist when they had a Search and Rescue role until disbanded in 1994. I am exceedingly pleased to announce that in July of this year, 418 was once again re-formed as Search and Rescue flying the new CC-295.
