TimeOut

Alfa Romeo

The car is already done.

I will see if I can scan in some of the before/during/after photographs and post them on the site.

The car is an ex-Californian import (to Australia) 1961 101-series Spider, with the standard 1300cc single Solex engine replaced with a 105 series 1600cc engine and 5 speed gearbox.

Prior to restoration, it had some rust in the footwell (water leaks in storage) and the seat tracks and steel seat pans were also attacked by the tin worm. Aside from that, it was remarkably straight (no evidence of any collisions). Of course, it required a new roof, which was actually the most painful part of the restoration. A tedious, iterative process of fitting and adjusting the roof frame, getting the tension in the fabric correct and repeating....never again.

It's a fun little car with nice handling, though the 155 section tyres squealat amusingly low cornering speeds. Keeps my licence safe!
