From Dress to Desk Diving - the SLA017

Jul 06, 2017,06:34 AM

I never thought that I'll be looking at acquiring a current Seiko diver watch due to the huge size and heft found on the existing models. That is until this reissue came along which generated a lot of buzz and reactions from various Watch fora.

While I was very glad to have gotten a GS dress watch earlier which is also a reissue one, I believe that my natal Seiko collection will not be complete until a diver watch is added, in which the bonus is being from the mother Seiko brand.

And this 62mas reissue SLA017 certainly fits the bill. Love everything about this watch - from the grey sunburst dial to the bright lume of the indices to the case size, and all the way to the black steel bezel and the bigger crown, not to forget the 8L movement. My only issue is the silicone strap which was long for desk diving smile and a dirt magnet. I'll be replacing it with a waffle strap. Nevertheless I believe that Seiko got this right, and would certainly address a segment of watch buyers who needed both a dress watch and a diver watch at a modern size and weight.

Would let the wrist shots do the talking.

Have a great day!

I'm glad you got your diver! It'll be hard to get down the road, I think. Looks great on your wrist. I had the 62MAS previously, and so I decided to get three of these SLA017s. Wanted to ask you about the stamp on your metal bracelet? Does it just say "" ...

Mine is

stamped on the bracelet. The series is a 1700+ bought from a Seiko boutique. Hope this helps!

congrats!

I'm still waiting for mine and yes, I am worried the silicone strap collects dust and dirt easily. Will probably switch to the bracelet instead.

Thanks Mark and beerstyle...

I'll get back to you on your question. I stashed away the bracelet as I don't intend to use it. My series is a 1700+ version. Hope this helps!

Looks impressive

The dial looks great - think I'd be relaxed about strap. But I'm with you on not putting it on a bracelet - mainly as not a huge fan of them, but also it looks great on a strap. Enjoy wearing it JML

Truly a great re-issue you got!

Congratulations on your latest acquisition! I really need to find a way to see this in the metal - I mean I truly do not need a diver but it would be such a shame to miss it at the same time. I hope that it will be easier making the right decision after t...

Great pick up my friend...

Saw your post on the pictorial review and I couldn't agree more on our vote for the 017!

Honestly

I don't know what it is but there has not been a watch for a long long time from any brand that has me lusting for it like this one! I have been thinking about it and man did seiko nail this piece. It's unique, it looks amazing, it has drilled lugs for ea...

Definitely agree on your observation.

Just sharing a story here: I was visiting a Jewelry store in Seattle today. Had a conversation with the store manager in charge of Rolex. He saw my SLA017 and told me he thought I was wearing a vintage piece. I love this piece!

Oh yea for sure!

I had many rolex's Sub c Sub hulk Gmt batman Deespea And sold them all after some time. They just stop singing to me after a while! There is something about Seiko divers that never gets old. I still wear my sumo and my padi turtle more than my other Swiss...

Congrats!
