I am fortunate to have one, well actually two. I have the white panda dial I purchased at msrp and I later added a two tone late 90's to have the Zenith caliber. I have to say the White Panda dial Daytona is the most recognized timepiece I have, well at least the one people who recongize it comment on. I don't love that fact, but it sort of amazes me as other hot luxury sport models I have and wear (Sub, DayDate, Datejust) go unnoticed or at least uncommented. Getting back to the watch and the hype, the Daytona is a special watch. Always has been even back 20 years ago where you could routinely find steel Subs, GMTs, SeaDwellers in the case at AD's and even discounted, the steel Daytona (at least in my area) always sold at list and there were not many of them in the case. You would see way more of the precious metal Daytona's lying around. This Daytona in steel is a special sport watch. The Rolex in house caliber is an amazing design built to typical Rolex standards. An added factor is the case, fits (me) like a glove. I believe it is slighter smaller than the newer cased Subs and other Rolex professional models. So I sort of get the hype. In my opinion I would never pay the prices (two or three times retail) they are asking. But I do believe it is is worth every penny at retail and perhaps a bit above if you can find one.
