Dropped by my local Rolex AD today and as luck would have it, they had both this Daytona WG Oysterflex that you like and the older 116509 WG blue dial as well as a few other gold models.
The Daytona WG Oysterflex dial is livelier and more vibrant in the metal. Really cool. I thought it might seem passive and too restrained. But it has a vibrant quality. I handled it under the store’s lights and it made the rhodium dial a tiny bit creamy. But I think in outdoors direct sunlight, it will be a true silvery glow. The cerachrom bezel is beautiful and I have changed my mind about it, I think the new bezel is better. It does make the watch profile seem less high/tall. I’m not completely convinced by the Oysterflex bracelet — obviously it felt lighter but I’m not sure it fits my bony wrist well. It flares out a bit on the sides due to the inner design. I think it is better for a meatier wrist than mine.
The 116509 WG blue dial is as gorgeous as advertised. The blue color is everything about this watch. The red accents within the dual are just noticeable enough to create a pleasing contrast against the sea of blue. It is a hefty watch but not an overwhelming bulkiness to me and I think I could deal with it. The WG bracelet has a slight yellow tint under the store’s artificial lights. I still like the overall complete all-metal look of this reference. It feels to me more in keeping with the emotions of a Daytona to have a metal oyster bracelet. However, the bezel is not cerachrom and originally I didn’t think that would bother me but in real life, I feel the lack of cerachrom bezel is now a big deal. It is the curse of comparing the new vs. the recent past.
