See things the same as you

Joe- well written. I was in the auction room and despite the auctioneer being quite capably, the auction seemed to 'drag' on.
I think the biggest problem was twofold:
1) The quality was just not there.
2) I also think that lack of Rolex leadership at Christies is a problem
We all know that under Aurel Bacs- quality was paramount. However Aurel also left at a time when finding watches
was starting to become a real problem. It is not even Christies fault- I think it is the nature of the market, top collectors don't want to sell. Simple as that.
Having said that we know that the top man at Christies is a Patek man. This leaves a large void.
In my opinion I think the worlds top dealers have a chance to pick up market share. The problem is who to trust?
So I don't think we can read too much into these results. Top watches commanded good prices. The Panda PN and the 1675
special UAE dial was evidence of that. The reference does not really matter so much. If the quality was there, buyers were there.
Lack of quality meant no bidding or no interest.
I think a big 'test' will be the themed sale of Philipps under Bacs of the Day Date next Spring.
Untill then it is time to be patient. And do more homework. And more homework.
