Happy 50th Birfday to the Rolex Explorer I; the only Rolex that appeals to me for itself and without hyperbole of the other models.
It looks so right with the loose bracelet links from the passage of time and adventures.
The missing box used as a Matchbox cars' garage is not an issue; after 50 years, Rolex boxes are sticky messes anyway

Sums up the value of a watch, and it has very little to do with price. There are very few things that can be passed on like that, and yet hold countless memories. The watch is still looking pristine too. Congratulations! A great milestone.

The first 1016 I ever saw was from 1967, and it originally belonged to the father of the guy wearing it. For me, 1016 just may be THE Rolex, and yours is fantastic!
