I would probably not let handle it in the first place..

 

Unless I knew they would show proper respect. However since the deed is done you could always calmly call out the behavior and compare it to something everyone can understand, like “I doubt it would be okay to use a shirt tail to wipe dust off the hood of someone’s luxury car without checking first.” If they don’t get the hint and apologize or they become defensive well…


Also I dislike when someone holds a watch in an open hand and then raises and lowers the watch quickly and says something stupid like “Woah! Heavy!”.  My heart always skips a beat as I imagine them dropping the watch. This behavior is more common from watch know-nothings though.
