I have one SD, this one, and two Subs. This SD was the first one though.
The reasons I bought it were 1) no cyclops and 2) the glossy black dial which to me at that time was different to the Sub’s dial. (I actually don’t know for sure if the dials were indeed different, but they seemed so for the newbie I was back then.
And there was definitely an element of it not being a Sub like what other people might have. This last point was interesting as I didn’t expect to meet many people with Rolex’s, and for the first few years I owned it I never came across anyone else wearing a Rolex (as is nobody, at all, ever) aside from when I would go to London for work. Also, many (most) people around me assumed it was a fake. (I was young, it was a lot of money for a watch, and nobody in my circle would have even thought about buying one).

Is there one specific feature of this SD that makes you all prefer it over the Submariner?
Is it the size, or a combination of other features? I haven’t experienced this SD myself, but I’ve been curious to understand the strong following it has.

I agree. I like having the Rolex Sub vibe without the cyclops is why a lot of people prefer the Seadweller.
I guess now that I don't care about having a date, I'd just buy the Sub no date, but back then the date was kind of convenient.
That makes sense. For me, since I don’t prefer a date, the Submariner ND was always a more natural preference.

This one, at that time, was my only watch. And it was worn 24/7, sleeping, work, gym, shower, socializing and even playing some sports. So I think it would have all kinds of tales to tell, both good and bad.
Yeah, it’s always pleasing to put it on and think of the history.
I also used to wear it pretty much 24/7 for a number of years, so it did really do everything and go everywhere.
I think Rolex doesn’t need to be big.
