Rolex

Hello dear Joe!! What an interesting point you make...

... with this thread!!

First I wish to comment about your fabulous collection of Subs. I completely agree that any Rolex collection would not be complete with at least one Sub.

You know that I´m a declared fan of Submariners, and that it was the watch which made me fall in love with the Rolex brand when I was almost a child.

Your collection of Subs is awesome and composed of so beautful and refined examples. I guess any of those timepieces will make you smile anytime when wearing on your wrist.

I have dealt with the different "themes" within the different collections of objects I have been interested in during my life as collector during around 40 or 45 years of my life.

I know well that no collection, no matter how many examples a collector owns, can be declared "complete".  There are factors regarding the quantity of variations of a product, the scarce condition of some, the limited budget we always have, etc. etc..

So I have arrived to a practical solution for my collections within collections, which I call: "A Comprehensive Collection".

That is, a small group of specimens of the object of our desire, which contemplated together will show something about it: be Its evolution, its main variations, different colors, etc..

Every collector should define which examples shoud be needed to more or less complete a "Comprehensive collection" he is trying to build, and try to hunt accordingly.

This is the only way I found to fight the inevitable anguish and frustration a collector feels when trying the impossible task of  "Completing" a collection with every variation ever built.

Your approach to your Submariner collection is a great example of this idea of mine, a very Comprehensive Collection, which gives great pleasure and pride to the owner, and a good presentation of the evolution of one of the most iconic watches in the Rolex line, and I feel iconic among all other brands, as it set a point in design and function followed by many other brands, since its introduction.

Congrats on your Submariners, and thank you so much for sharing them with us with such a passion, and also for bringing this so interesting matter to us!

Best cordial regards, Abel.
