Either one worth getting
Visit the local AD and asked for the Submariner without date, they only have one otherwise go for a waiting list. The other one is a Explorer I, both brand new watches. New to Rolex forum, how would anyone rate these two "new" timepieces? I am actually starting to hunt down the 5512 and hopefully get one to collect & keep. I am getting a Explorer II mk 1 on Monday, feeling excited...

The new sub is great, explorer is a classic. Obviously getting a 5512 good condition would be fantastic but the ceramic bezels looks amazing all day, everyday
Both the explorer and sub are classics
Can't really go wrong. Which do you like better? Maybe wait until you can answer that.
Difficult to choose as an everyday piece
Most likely the Sub. Any vintages I get will only sit in the safe...
I have flirted with a new Rolex in recent months...
But decided for this brand, I am going to go back a few years when I am ready. So much to choose from, many in wonderful condition and attainable.
The two vintage Explorer and Submariner are top. In the modern, not bad, not bad.
But they don't play in the same field... That's why they are not in the same price range, either. Sub or Explorer? Vintage or modern? I would say vintage, and Explorer unless you consider a no crown guard version ( Vintage Rolex Guys will kill me for that...
methinks your pics tell the story. the current (new) explorer is just too shiny. i found it hard to actually see the hands in the store! size good, shiny bad...
would be so much better with matte black dial and painted indices, like the older versions. wish it were so... as to the new submariner, never liked the bulkier case with same old dial size. too disproportionate. so both are a no go. go with the vintage e...

Just recently checked both of them in a local reseller and I think the updated Explorer I has just the right proportions. I can not say the same for the sub. Soon one of these explorers will be my daily ticker......at least for a while. It is light, thin ...
