about 4 years ago, some "civilian" 5514's appeared on the market.
Correct watches with HEV, but no Comex engraving.
IMHO these watches have been "put together" with spare 5514 cases.

All the ref. 5514 is for Comex only, with or without Comex logo on the dial (about 450 untis) yes, you can find sub number caseback engraving also on the "no-logo" 5514. btw. there are also 5513 comex with logo, 5513 no-logo with HEV (really rare) and eve...

This is what confuses me with vintage Rolex pieces.
The numbering is all similar, 5512, 5513, 5514, 5517 etc. Yet they are all slightly different. Some of the differences are obvious, such as a HEV sword style hands. Were others, unless you are a true expert would never notice the difference. Then you can ...

a watch with service papers identifying it as a 5514 and with a serial number dating it to 1977 but with no comex markings on the back or dial? Were there such watches? Are they 'franken watches' or do they count as genuine 5514's? This is very scary for ...
