Questions about Daytona 16520 A series

Based on the photo, this looks clean, probably unpolished. The second one you posted (based on the photos) seems to me badly polished, looks like it lost all its angles Good you are aiming for this Daytona ;-)
Both have been polished.
The give-away is the "Units Per Hour," which show clear loss of paint from polishing. A-serial were produced for just over a year, around 1999. The hour and minute hands are in Luminova instead of Tritium.

But I think the "Units Per Hour" is more of the light reflection than a clear loss of paint from polishing.

The question is does the earlier one without SEL feel different visually or wear different?

As in most cases. Go for either the first or last of the series.
So R7 serial or P. Although an A series has been Considered to be the end of the 16520. They are great watches and to be honest any 16520 is a gem to be treasured. M.
