Questions about Daytona 16520 A series
Oct 07, 2020,10:21 AM
Hi Guys... I'm thinking of getting a Daytona 16520 and I'm wondering what's the appeal of an A series 16520 or does it matter? I was searching for one made in 1999 and it ends up to be A series which the dealer said that it is rare. I know very little about Rolex so if you can share this info with me, I appreciate it Also, based on the photos attached, how would you consider the condition, such as the lugs and is it okay or over polished? Thank you.
Cheers,
John

Based on the photo, this looks clean, probably unpolished. The second one you posted (based on the photos) seems to me badly polished, looks like it lost all its angles Good you are aiming for this Daytona ;-)
Thanks...

The first one does look a lot cleaner and sharper.
Both have been polished.

The give-away is the "Units Per Hour," which show clear loss of paint from polishing. A-serial were produced for just over a year, around 1999. The hour and minute hands are in Luminova instead of Tritium.
That's good to know.

The question is does the earlier one without SEL feel different visually or wear different?
Sort of ....

To me, the biggest difference is the visual one due to the raised middle section of the end link. With regard to tangible changes, I think there is a slight difference when you hold the watch as the solid end link is incrementally more secure against the ...
Aahhhhh maybe you were one of the collectors

Who thought I was a lunatic 25 years ago when I was telling everyone in the watch community to buy as many 16520’s as they can. Yes my friend not one of your best decisions but we all have lots of those. You have another stunning example though to make yo...
