A question

Jocke (formerly called Tony) wink ,

Thanks for the long term review. Back in 2001, there was no Rolex forum on ThePuristS website and I don't read Swedish. smile

I liked the old Explorer I but by the nature of its original target owners and low cost, most examples were beaten up.
The Explorer II did not immediately appeal partly because it was expensive compared to Explorer I.

My question is about the feeling at the time of its launch.
Today, when Rolex presents a new watch, it is like the gods have descended with a gift for mankind.
We should be grateful and maybe if we are good, a steel model may appear in future.

But when you ordered your watch in 2001, what was the atmosphere as a customer wanting a new model you were amongst the first to see in Basel?
As it was only available in steel anyway, maybe you cannot comment on the different attitudes between gold and steel customers?

Regards,
MTF

I totally agree with you. The only thing missing from perfection is solid bracelet links. They got the solid end links done right. I always liked this reference. Thanks for mentioning it!

Thanks guys. [nt]

In fact I have give up Rolex today because I don't want to beg a company to buy their products. At the moment Rolex have cut the SS production to make them more rare. So now I focus on more small independent and german brands.

We have similar tastes in watches

Which is probably why I own an Explorer II 16570, have considered both a 1016 and a 114270 several times, but ended up with the 214270 as I preferred the 39mm size, new bracelet and all lumed indexes (I bought a post 2016 version). I have been following y...
