A question of preference - GMTIIc 116710 or SubND 14060M
Hi PuristS,
First post! Been a lurker for a while and learnt an unbelievable amount of stuff from browsing these forums so thanks to all you contributors who make it easy to learn about watches vintage through new. Although, I don't think it's a place as much appreciated by wives or bank accounts...
Anyway, thinking of making a foray into the Rolex world for a watch that can be worn daily (with rotation) to the office with suit, and also casually as well. Consequently, the two new models that have caught my eye are the SS GMTIIc and the Sub NoDate. To those who have one or the other (or both) how have your wearing experiences been? Which would you choose between them? Why?
I realise they are quite different watches (different bracelets, lugs, maxi-dial vs no., bezel type and functionality, date, parachrom blue spring, date etc.) but to me they both represent functional daily watches and hence can be compared from that respect. In terms of aesthetics however, the GMT looks very different with its large numeral bezel, PCL, maxi dial etc. compared to the SubND with its simple, clean, monochromatic look dial. The bracelet on the GMT definitely feels more 'solid' (which it is) but conversely the lugholes on the Sub make it easy for nato's in the summer if so desired...Both are very appealing for different reasons hence the indecision! I realise the GMT has more functionality, but the Sub counters back with a mean retro simplicity...
For reference, my current watches are an IWC 3719 (Aquatimer Chrono B&W dial bracelet) and an AP 15300 (blue dial). Other watches that I considered at this time are an IWC 5001-07 and a JLC TT 1931; however, I'm leaning more towards a bracelet watch as summers in Tokyo (where I've recently moved) can be really brutal.
Anyway, apologies for a long post and thanks for any opinions offered! I look forward to being part of this community.
Best,
Will.
