May I congratualte you on a really nice and awesome catch of a true PN legend. Looks like a wacth I have been serachibg for a while now :-(, you are one lucky person 
The 6263 (and its "twin", the 6265) were in production from 1970 until end of 1987. The "Instruction Manual" had the word "Daytona" added on the front page around mid 1970's. However the content of the manual was kept the same.
Also the red "Daytona" was added in the middle of 1970's
As your watch is purchased in 1988, does not mean it is from 1987 (last production run)
The 78359 bracelt was introduced in 1977, so your watch is newer (and should probably have had the I.M. with "Daytona"

many watches do But i think what makes them special is their ability to bve worn on pretty much any occasion. I was reading a fascinating thread on how people decide on what to collect. Honestly, i really believe the watches choose.

but of course what do you expect when you are part of this community.... and your boss is constantly showing his... The problem is I want a vintage one now.... and I need to get one for my girlfriend so that she stops thinking about stealing it from me......

exactly...the booklet would have Daytona on for a late 6263, no? I suspect I have another watch's booklet. The owner is adamant that my booklet did not get mixed up with another, so i suppose it is possible that Rolex just provided an older booklet with t...
Maybe the AD gave an old booklet when the watch was purchased...
they used to give the first one that showed up when opening the drawer. I would not worry. Cheers Jeff

All these vintage Daytonas are legends for sure, though this one not a PN...that would have been nice. But i hate to think the scarcity of a 6263 PN with punched papers and one prior owner. Ugggh. Agreed that the purchase in 1988 does not imply prodction ...

the booklet that was given to the first owner with my early 6265 was this one, featuring....a 6239 ! So you have the "correct" (although not original) booklet of my watch ;-)...
