 By: ddjlc : July 26th, 2011-17:27
Hi everyone! i'm debating between a 1680 red submariner or a JLC world geographic for a wedding present for my husband. The submariner in question is made in the same year and quarter as my husbands birthday. This gift will be his first NICE watch, or rea...

have you considered the Vacheron Constatine Overseas Dual Time?

 By: playtime : July 26th, 2011-19:52
seems to capture both the sporty virtues of Rolex and the urbane qualities of the JLC (possesses the same movement). The Ti/SS version is especially alluring......more money, to be sure, but not that much more--and it's a Vacheron congrats by the way--you...

yes I have! but not as enamoured as with JLC

Hi playtime, Yes I did look at it. It's a tad out of my budget now, but more importantly i love the idea of the cities already represented on the JLC. Vacheron and Patek are interesting lines... but they just dont seem to me as 'memorable'. I know that's ...

Nope, you are not missing anything if...

Since your post are on the rolex forum. What do you expect It is much harder to come across a watch that match the owner's birthday let alone a vintage watch. I won't hesitate to get the 1680. More so if is in pristine condition. He can always go back and...

your point definitely hits home. i can always get him a jlc later on ... the rolex will really put me out on budget... at least for a little while but i think it might be worth it. what are your thoughts on retaining value? i'm a little concerned though t...

Unless he goes into battlefield chasing tanks and dodging grenades. The Red Sub would be fine. There are ample supply of replacement parts and watchmaker around to servicee the watch to keep it ticking for a long time. However do check the reference of th...

What do you need to know before buying?

I own a 1680 Red Sub and am also considering a JLC geographic. Both are beautiful watches. WHichever you choose will be a good decision. However, in my mind there is a clear winner.... The Red Sub is an iconic watch. It will always be an iconic watch. Amo...

 By: ddjlc : July 27th, 2011-04:51
Hi everyone! wow i am so lucky to have watch afficiandos like you on my side! I think my husband will have to become a collector by default... pity there really isnt much collecting in women's watches... or perhaps there is and i'm not so aware. i'm conce...

Red Subs....definitely not common

 By: Baron - Mr Red : July 27th, 2011-05:24
Is the retailer reputable? It is a shame it does not have papers as that is always a big plus with a watch that old. I agree with you on Rolex sometimes being seen as common. But I think that definitely does not apply to vintage Rolex...and in the Red Sub...

Have the shop remove the bracelet and take pictures between the lugs. The serial number is stamped there and 1680 on the other side. I know of a few stores in NYC that can verify authenticity of the watch. See if seller will offer a guarantee for authenti...
