What kind of Rolex Fan are you: Edmund Hillary, Pussy Galore or James Bond?

 By: amanico : October 9th, 2010-03:00
Air / Earth / Sea? Both share the sense of Adventure, the celebrity, and ... the lack of crownguards. So, what kind of Rolex fan are you? Best, Nicolas This message has been edited by DrStrong on 2010-10-09 22:35:23 This message has been edited by amanico...

Incoming and my first Sub. Please pardon the poor image. I'll post better pics once it arrives. This message has been edited by joeyza on 2010-10-09 03:16:38...

Killing Sub, indeed. :)

5508

 By: Mostel : October 13th, 2010-08:51
I saw an older man wearing one at my favorite guitar shop... a patina'd well worn real world watch. I took a mental picture and figured out which model it was with the help of this wonderful site. If I were to go vintage, today anyway, the 5508.

I won't be the one who will tell you that it is a bad choice, Mostel

 By: amanico : October 13th, 2010-10:09
These 6536 / 6538 / 5508 are really great watches! Powerful and full of charm... Classics! Best, Nicolas

Thanks Nicolas

 By: Mostel : October 13th, 2010-23:15
I should not ever start with the vintage stuff...... but...... They look so good all worn in.

James Bond, of course!

 By: anaesdoc : October 9th, 2010-03:27
Hi Nicolas, lovely vintage Rolex combination of yours and a challenging question for us! My favourite is James Bond and the Submariner (sea); actually it was this association that brought me to overcome my "Rolexophobia" . My second best candidate would b...

Missing Bond pic

 By: anaesdoc : October 9th, 2010-03:36
This "earthen" pic should have been in the first post already Very grim determination on his face, the villain provocatingly laid-back. Bond fighting underground in a missile silo (from "The World is not enough"). Sorry for the Omega on his wrist...

Don't be the sorry for the Omega on his wrist!

 By: chaser579 : October 9th, 2010-06:26
Rolex is a very good watch, and Omega ROCKS! Including some from the moon! Et voila, mon ami....! HAGWE! Thanks! =:^{D>

Nothing to be said against Omega watches

 By: anaesdoc : October 9th, 2010-07:16
On the contrary: most of my quality watches are Omegas and virtually all of my vintage ones. The "sorrry" was a smiling comment to Nicolas´ post in the Rolex forum, that I "spoilt" with this non-Rolex pic . Best regards, anaesdoc...

I have the feeling that the Bond will be the winner.

 By: amanico : October 9th, 2010-03:59
It will be interesting to see why. Because of the " personnage ", or because of the watch? Best, Anaesdoc, and thanks for your input. Nicolas.

I consent for these reasons ...

 By: anaesdoc : October 9th, 2010-04:25
Sir Edmund Hillary was a real person, i.e. he lacks the (artificial) charisma of movie characters and is muss less to see on the screen as they are. Besides he grew old whereas the actors stay forever young if we watch them in their old movies . Pussy Gal...

I was waiting for you, or Joe, or Jeff to mention Paul Newman! Of course, my friend, you can add this Star to the other Stars! Best, Nicolas

You've got all the bases covered with those three beauties. Cheers, Pete

That was the idea, Pete...

 By: amanico : October 9th, 2010-05:10
Well, there are other pieces to include, such as the Explo II " Freccione " or the Daytona, or some themas to develop such as the Explos or GMTs. But that is another story. Best, Nicolas

Pussy...

I thought I will say BOND

 By: TdotBean : October 9th, 2010-08:26
but I am looking for vintage subs then I saw your pic. OK I change my mind. Hail to Sir Edmund. What are they going for these days. Please PM me PS: Your E1 is to die for. Tyler

Difficult to choose between these 3, Tyler.

 By: amanico : October 9th, 2010-15:08
Add a Daytona and a Milgauss, and I think the basics are totally covered. The Explo I, being 6610, 1016 or any other few references are a bit underated, due to their smaller size. Underated, but not by me, as I'm in serious love with it. Nice choice! Best...

EASY! *cue my theme song*

 By: dxboon : October 9th, 2010-10:16
James Bond Sub for me, Vlad dearest! Followed by Ms. Galore's GMT, and then the Explorer. My favorite scene from Goldfinger below. Best. Bond. EVER! And, boy, that Sean Connery. Hubba hubba! From Los Angeles with love! *giggle* Daos

Just...

 By: dxboon : October 9th, 2010-17:21
...all of the above! Connery was the best Bond IMO and this watch was the best of the Bond watches over the years. Cheers, Daos

Agreed...

Chuck Yeager on the Rolex side and Buzz Aldrin on the Omega side, since they are real people and both watch brands have been featured in Bond films and whatnot also. See what happens after sampling a glass of Pinot Noir and one of Moscato? Wheee! Thanks! ...

The balance wheel on the GMT is amagnetic, as well as on the Explo.

And, for sure, the Sub. I mean the Vintage ones, of course the moderns. No need to apologize, it is not that evident! Best, Nicolas

Great question.... Edmund Hillary for me...

That is an interesting view, Andrew.

Most of the answers focus on celebrities, when you focus on your childhood, and you're absolutely right! Well, I guess that when others refer to James Bond, they also refer to a part of their childhood. But the Explo II so called Freccione has something m...

I'd better be careful...

Tenzig Norgay!!

 By: playtime : October 11th, 2010-12:21
wasn't it he, rather than Hillary (didn't he wear a Smiths), who wore the Explorer? Whatever the case, I love the sense of adventure that the Explorer embodies--and its scientific heritage (was it not part of the geophysic year like JLC and IWC?) that it ...

Tenzing Norgay

 By: papazulu : October 11th, 2010-12:27
Suposedly yes it was he who wore the Explorer!

Correct.

 By: amanico : October 11th, 2010-12:49
As for the IGY ( International Geophysic Year ), yes, the Explorer is contemporanean of the JLC. The IWC came later, IMO. The other one to be contemporanean is the Railmasrer Omega, if I'm not wrong. Yes, 1958 was an exciting year! Best, Nicolas

Great line-up! All share their special beauty!

 By: bullibeer : October 11th, 2010-23:18
Can't choose....hell why choose!!! Enjoy! Bernhard

I'm the type of fan that goes crazy with this lineup, Nico!!

 By: AlexSunrise : October 13th, 2010-14:17
Difficult, if not impossible to choose, but if you point at me with a Walther PPK, then the choice would be obvious... Fuerte abrazo, hermano! Alejandro

From that trio..............

 By: VMM : October 14th, 2010-04:22
I would take the Explorer, no doubt, but I have to confess that your "PEPSI" GMT looks stunning. What a wonderful patina on that dial. Love it. Thanks for sharing. Best. Vte

I feel you have a small hesitation between Sir Hillary and Pussy Galore, my friend.

 By: amanico : October 14th, 2010-04:25
Que va! I'm happy you played the card of the outisders! Best, Amigo. Nicolas.
