In the news today at Daily Mail UK is a new watch as below. 1.75mm thick, hand-wound but needs a star-ended tool to wind and set the time. PR 48 hours. Titanium alloy. I cannot see a crystal, so wonder about protection and WR! LE of 150, price £1.6mn! ...
I can't see a proper time piece in it. I may have very limited exposure in such matters if I missed something that justifies more than 7 figures price tag..
Still, technically interesting but they sure spread out the mechanism, whereas Bvlgari and Piaget kept it 'normal'. I do admire RM for sponsoring many auto racing events.
Then again... My opinion isn't particularly valid. Since I'm not planning to spend a million dollars on it. And here's the other thing. It's $1.8M and they plan to make 150 of them over only a couple of years? 270 million in revenue!!! That's how RM gets ...
things around the prancing horse logo, especially given the surface area of the dial! They could have cut an opening through the dial in the shape of the prancing horse, and had the time display suspended in the center of it etc........
Architecturally, that part of the watch has very little going on. Some gear train and/or barrel that isn't interesting, nor is it able to put on a display. So they had to put something on the case/dial to keep the case/dial looking balanced. Thus, putting...
it looks so ugly, like something I would expect to get out of a cracker jack box. And if you have to carry a key to wind and set the time, what's the point? And at over a $1m I almost spit out my coffee in disbelief. Just my humble two cents.
the technicality of it is impressive, but the design itself, as mentioned above, thoroughly absurd. I genuinely see nothing aesthetically sensible and appealing here. Even the prancing horse logo is integrated in a rather dumb manner. I'm still confident ...
As usual 149 will be given away to famous basketball players, F1 drivers, rappers, soccer players…. And again they’ll find 1 moron that will pay full price…. So all costs covered to make these 150 😂😂
Have 0 interest in a watch like this while technically an achievement a useless exercise in ugliness. If this were the only mechanical watch I owned , I would not even wear it. MSB
"...with two sapphire crystals — one over the time indicators and the other positioned over the regulator." Still...I can't get excited about a watch that's thinner than it's bracelet...but at nearly $1.9M it's not like I'm in the queue...
The price was practically chosen to be a talking point and the watch doesn't grab me as particularly desirable. However, it is an ultra-ultra-thin and as such I'd be fascinated to play around with it to a bit.
