Unless if the individual had some dramatic falling out, post-ambassadorship, then wearing a piece given to them is free advertising to the brand. Probably then in the interest of giving them a watch.
I can imagine the pit crew staff who wear RM’s during races are not given but rather “issued” at the beginning of a season.
There are examples from multiple sports, from tennis players, runners, and if I'm not mistaken even a football player...for once I think these are partnerships that makes sense, for a brand whose image is about sports watches with extreme performances.
I'd love to be sponsored by them when I teach algebra, but I guess they don't consider it exciting enough! ;-))

I think it was mentioned by Richard Mille himself why he would not put money in football or basketball sponsorship - players cannot wear watches on the field, which is different than e.g. tennis players.

Entire automobiles can be delivered at retail for well under $25k so no reason to think this would cost more than that. Maybe for a new guy in year 1, but not for a brand like RM in year, what is it, 20?

RM has been really active sponsoring drivers/teams in F1
The watches of Alonso and Leclerc are all personalized to them - as well as Kimi’s. I think for this season RM created a new McLaren RM 67 edition you can see the drivers started wearing this weekend in Bahrain.

So they can be featured in huge promotional-value races and etc etc??? It's not totally impossible, but very unlikely these race guys choose to pay the price for these watches... RM has made racing cars his 'brand' Shrug... If I were a betting man... 99% ...
