who among other things was a professional photographer, about "opportunity vs. quality of technique"... how a beautiful location or spectacular event might over shadow a very well executed photo of a mundane or banal theme. For the life of me I can't remember his reply ; )
Of course I was thinking of technique as "execution as measured against some standard"... I can agree with Cuarón that what we take as a definition of technique or style might need a 'rethink'... there are as many individual approaches as there are photographers... we might see things that we want to try with a different approach, but that doesn't make the photograph in question "wrong or imperfect" in any sense... of course it's a different story concerning the lazy photographer ; )

What I like about "open questions" is that I am forced to think about the two seemingly opposite poles, how there can be granularity (the unexpected) at each end, and how they can complement each other... The cast of "Seinfeld" always said that the TV sho...
